Anna Brunner

Germany

Anna Brunner — German vocalist — is part of Exit Eden, the project gathering European symphonic metal singers to re-record pop songs in heavy arrangements. Exit Eden debuted in 2017 with Rhapsodies in Black, a record built on a risky premise: take widely known material — from Madonna to Adele — and rebuild it with orchestration, heavy guitars and four different vocalists. The risk is obvious. Versions of that kind usually sound like a passing novelty; what sustained the project was treating the songs with interpretive seriousness rather than as parody. In 2024 Exit Eden returned with Femmes Fatales, now as a trio. Brunner remains in the line-up, alongside Clémentine Delauney and Marina La Torraca. Her voice has a useful trait in this context: it moves between clean register and a more aggressive attack, which lets the group vary its reading from track to track without depending on a single vocal colour. In a project where three singers share each record, that flexibility is what keeps the versions from all sounding alike.
