Attila Dorn — born in Romania in 1970 — has been Powerwolf's vocalist since the band's founding in 2003, and the element that makes its formula work. His difference is his training: Dorn studied operatic singing and brings to metal a genuine operatic baritone, with support, vibrato and conservatoire projection. That matters because Powerwolf builds its repertoire on church choirs, organ and inverted religious subject matter — material that would sound like caricature sung by an ordinary power metal vocalist. Sung by a genuinely trained voice, it works. His Romanian origin is not incidental either. Powerwolf works with the imagery of lycanthropy, vampirism and Central and Eastern European clergy, and the singer comes from exactly that region — the only non-German member of a German band that sings about Transylvania. With the Greywolf brothers and Falk Maria Schlegel, he is one of the elements present from the first record, Return in Bloodred (2005), to Wake Up the Wicked (2024) — a line-up practically unchanged for twenty years, with only one change of drummer, which is rare in any metal band of that reach.
