Christian Passos

Christian Passos — Brazilian musician — is part of the national metal circuit, working in bands and projects on the scene. Over four decades Brazilian metal built a structure existing almost entirely outside the main record industry. Bands finance themselves, record in small studios, distribute on their own and keep an audience through concerts and circulation in specialist networks. That means a musician's career in the genre is built differently in the country. There is no label contract to fund exclusive dedication, and most instrumentalists work in more than one project at once, taking on several roles and moving between bands as records and tours come along. It is on this layer that the Brazilian scene rests. The most visible bands — Angra, Sepultura, Krisiun — are the visible part of a much wider fabric, made of musicians whose constant activity is what keeps the genre alive in the country.
