Craig Mabbitt — American vocalist — took over Escape the Fate in 2008 and has been its voice ever since, which makes him the singer on most of the band's output. The situation he inherited was among the most uncomfortable in post-hardcore. Escape the Fate had debuted with Dying Is Your Latest Fashion (2006) under Ronnie Radke's voice, and Radke's departure left a divided fanbase and a permanent comparison. Mabbitt came from blessthefall, where he had already recorded, and stepped in to make This War Is Ours (2008). The record worked, and the decision that carried it was not imitating his predecessor: Mabbitt took the band towards a more melodic register with open choruses and less emphasis on screaming. Escape the Fate (2010), Ungrateful (2013), Hate Me (2015), I Am Human (2018), Chemical Warfare (2021) and Out of the Shadows (2023) were all made with him — six of the group's eight albums. Fifteen years fronting a band that nearly dissolved over a singer change, with the guitar and bass line-up shifting around him, is what defines his run. He has kept side projects too, but it is in Escape the Fate that his voice became the fixed element.
