Danny Worsnop — British vocalist — is the voice of Asking Alexandria, a band he left in 2015 and returned to in 2016. His departure and return define part of the group's history. Worsnop sang on the records that established Asking Alexandria as one of the most listened-to names in British metalcore, left at its peak to pursue another musical direction, and came back a year later — an episode that divided the audience and that few bands cross without dissolving. The reason for the departure explains his path. Worsnop wanted to do something else: he put together We Are Harlot, a classic hard rock project, and then recorded solo records of country and American southern rock, singing clean in a register completely distinct from what he did in metalcore. It is a vocal range almost no singer in the genre demonstrates — moving from growls and screams to a honky-tonk ballad demands two techniques that do not communicate. His return coincides with Asking Alexandria's turn towards a more melodic sound, from The Black (2016) — a direction that, in practice, brought the band closer to the kind of singing he had left in order to do.
