Denis Stoff — Ukrainian vocalist — was the voice of Asking Alexandria between 2015 and 2016, in the most delicate interval of the band's history. He took the microphone after Danny Worsnop's departure, whose voice was inseparable from the group, and recorded The Black (2016) — the record that marks the beginning of Asking Alexandria's turn towards a more melodic sound. His spell was short: Worsnop returned the same year, and Stoff left the band. His origin is what makes his path unusual. He comes from Ukraine, a country with no tradition whatsoever in the British or American metalcore circuit, and gained international visibility through the internet, recording versions of other bands' tracks before any contract. It was by that route that he reached Asking Alexandria — a path that barely existed before the 2010s, and one that placed an Eastern European singer at the front of one of the genre's most listened-to British bands. It is a brief spell, but it covers exactly the turning point at which the band changed musical direction.
