Fabio Caldeira

Fabio Caldeira — Brazilian musician — works in the country's metal circuit. Brazilian metal has a particular relationship with time. Bands that in other countries would last three or four years here span decades, often with long pauses and returns — because there is no industry calendar pressing for releases, tours or contract renewal. That produces discontinuous but persistent paths. A musician may go five years without recording and come back afterwards with the same band or another formed from the same circles; the networks remain, even when the projects stop. It is a way of working that only makes sense outside a market logic. Where musical activity depends on financial return, a long pause usually means the end; where it depends only on the decision to continue, a pause is just a pause. Much of the Brazilian metal scene exists under that second condition.
