Johan Liefvendahl

Johan Liefvendahl — Swedish guitarist — is a co-founder of Seventh Wonder and the band's guitarist across its whole run. His role in the group's sound is defined by a choice: in Seventh Wonder the guitar is rarely the foreground instrument. The band organises its songs around the voice and around Andreas Blomqvist's melodic bass lines, and the guitar works as a layer of weight and texture, stepping forward in the instrumental passages and the solos. That restraint is what lets Seventh Wonder sound like progressive metal without falling into the technical-showcase format. Records like Mercy Falls (2008) and Tiara (2018) have complex structures yet are heard as songs — the result of arrangements in which each instrument yields space at the right moment. Liefvendahl is on every album, from Become (2005) to The Testament (2022), and is, with Blomqvist and keyboardist Andreas Söderin, part of the core that has kept the band standing since its founding in Stockholm in 2000.
