Hugo Mariutti

Hugo Mariutti established his name as guitarist for Shaman, a formation created in 2000 alongside Andre Matos, Luis Mariutti and Ricardo Confessori. In Ritual and Reason, he combined heavy riffs, precise melodies and a less exhibitionist approach than the average power metal. His guitar was not there to fill space between the vocals, but to structure songs like “Fairy Tale”, “For Tomorrow” and “Innocence”, becoming a central part of the band’s identity. The partnership with Andre Matos continued after Shaman's first separation. Mariutti participated in the singer's three solo albums, Time to Be Free, Mentalize and The Turn of the Lights, also contributing as a composer. At the same time, he explored more progressive and alternative paths in Henceforth and Remove Silence, in addition to temporarily integrating Viper. This diversity reveals a musician less tied to melodic metal than his best-known work might suggest. In his solo career, Hugo also took on vocals, production and more introspective writing. From A Blank Sheet of Paper to This Must Be Wrong, their fourth album, released in 2025, approached alternative rock, post-punk and melancholic atmospheres, deliberately moving away from the grandeur of Shaman. His trajectory is marked by this refusal to remain within a single language: a guitarist recognized by metal, but artistically much greater than the genre that projected him.
