Abel Camargo

Abel Camargo — Brazilian guitarist — founded Hibria in 1996 in Porto Alegre, and is the only member present throughout the band's history. Hibria was born in a scene in Rio Grande do Sul far from the Rio–São Paulo axis, and built a reputation with a sound distinct from the Brazilian power metal of the time: less symphonic and less fanciful than Angra, closer to traditional heavy metal, with riffs of technical cut and structures avoiding the predictable verse-chorus formula. Defying the Rules (2004), the debut record, is a reference in Brazilian metal — a work that circulated internationally and took the band on tours in Europe and Japan, a reach rare for a group from the south of the country without major-label backing. As composer and rhythm guitarist across eight albums and almost three decades, Camargo is the one who carried Hibria's sonic identity through complete changes of line-up — including the departure of Iuri Sanson, the singer of twenty years' standing, and the reformulation presented in 2026.
