Jonathan Donais — born in the United States in 1979 — has been Anthrax's lead guitarist since 2013, when he replaced Rob Caggiano. He comes from another generation and another sub-genre: he made his name in Shadows Fall, a band of the so-called new wave of American heavy metal, a current that in the 2000s recovered elements of classic thrash and combined them with metalcore. In other words, he arrived at Anthrax influenced by a scene Anthrax itself had helped create. His function is to play the solos and reproduce live a repertoire built by several guitarists across four decades — from Dan Spitz's high phrasing in the 1980s to the most recent material. He recorded For All Kings (2016) and remains in the current line-up, which has been stable for over a decade.
