Mark Tornillo has been Accept's singer since 2009, and is the musician who made the band's return possible after thirteen years of inactivity. Born in New Jersey, in the United States, in 1954, he came from TT Quick, a hard rock group from the East Coast scene, and was practically unknown outside it when he was called. His hiring solved a difficult problem. Accept had dissolved in 1996 and attempts to reunite with Udo Dirkschneider had not prospered; without that voice, the band simply would not sound like itself. Tornillo has a rough, torn timbre close enough to the original to carry the old repertoire, but with enough identity of its own not to sound like imitation — a rare balance, and the reason the comeback worked. The result is in the numbers: since Blood of the Nations (2010), Tornillo has recorded six studio albums with Accept, more than any singer in the band's history other than Dirkschneider himself, and has fronted the group through fifteen uninterrupted years of activity, up to Humanoid (2024).
