Michael Anthony Vescera

Michael Vescera — American vocalist — built a career in some of melodic heavy metal's most demanding situations, including spells in Loudness and in Yngwie Malmsteen's band. Loudness is the most notable case. The Japanese band had reached international standing in the 1980s and decided at the end of the decade to record with an American singer — Vescera took that role, which meant singing the material of an established band for an audience that knew the previous line-up by heart. With Yngwie Malmsteen he recorded in the first half of the 1990s. Singing for Malmsteen carries a specific demand: the material is written around the guitar, with structures serving the instrument, and the vocalist must find melodic room inside arrangements not made to give him prominence. His voice has high range and clear articulation, which suits that kind of repertoire. It is the path of the professional melodic metal singer: called in for difficult roles, in bands whose name belongs to somebody else.
