Mike Stone — born in the United States in 1969 — is Queensrÿche's guitarist in two periods: between 2003 and 2008, and again since 2021. His first spell covers the band's most unstable phase. Chris DeGarmo had left in 1997 taking the main source of composition with him, and the group spent the following years seeking direction — Tribe (2003) and Operation: Mindcrime II (2006) were attempts to recover lost ground, with uneven results. Stone shared the guitars with Michael Wilton in that period. His return in 2021 happens in the opposite context: the band had already stabilised with Todd La Torre on vocals and regained critical consistency. He is part of the line-up that recorded Digital Noise Alliance (2022). His function is the same in both moments — holding the rhythmic ground while Wilton carries the solos, in a repertoire that requires moving between the classic material of the 1980s and the recent recordings.
