Mike Wead — Mikael Vikström, born in Sweden in 1967 — has been King Diamond's guitarist since 2000 and is also a member of Mercyful Fate, which places him in both of the same singer's bands. He joined in time for House of God (2000) and stayed through everything that followed, including Abigail II: The Revenge (2002), The Puppet Master (2003) and Give Me Your Soul...Please (2007). He shares the guitars with Andy LaRocque in a complementary relationship: one holds the harmonic ground while the other carries the melodic line, and the roles alternate across the tracks as the narrative requires. Before that he built a career in the Swedish scene of the 1980s and 1990s, passing through Hexenhaus and Memento Mori, technical metal and doom bands moving in territory very different from the gothic theatre in which he later settled.
