Rafael Gubert

Rafael Gubert — Brazilian musician — works in the country's metal circuit. Southern Brazil has a metal scene with characteristics of its own. Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and Paraná developed active circuits independent of one another, with bands that reached national and in some cases international standing — Krisiun, formed in the Rio Grande do Sul interior, is the clearest example. Distance from the country's production centres was, paradoxically, a structuring factor. Bands from the South organised autonomously from the start, building their own regional circuits rather than depending on São Paulo, and that produced scenes with a distinct musical identity. It is a pattern repeating in countries of continental dimensions: peripheral scenes, forced to work without access to the centre, end up developing characteristics of their own that make them recognisable — and, in time, exportable.
