Rob Dukes — born in the United States in 1968 — was Exodus's singer between 2005 and 2014, a period in which the band recorded some of its heaviest albums. His arrival happened in an unusual way: he was working as the band's guitar technician when he took the microphone, after Steve Souza's departure. He debuted on Shovel Headed Kill Machine (2005) and also recorded The Atrocity Exhibition: Exhibit A (2007), Let There Be Blood (2008) — a complete re-recording of the debut album — and Exhibit B: The Human Condition (2010). His voice differs from the group's earlier ones. Where Paul Baloff shouted at the edge of hoarseness and Souza sang in a higher register, Dukes uses a low, articulated growl, closer to modern death metal. That pulled Exodus towards a denser sound less tied to 1980s thrash, a direction that divided opinion among the older audience. He left the band in 2014 with Souza's return, and continued in his own projects in the American scene.
