Roby De Micheli — born in Italy in 1981 — has been Rhapsody of Fire's guitarist since 2011, having taken the position at the most delicate moment in the band's history. His arrival coincides with the departure of Luca Turilli, co-founder and author of the guitar language that defined the group: high-speed neoclassical phrasing, harmonies in two voices and melodic themes in dialogue with the orchestra. The entire classic repertoire — including the Emerald Sword Saga — was written in that vocabulary. De Micheli took on the task of reproducing that material and, at the same time, taking part in building the new. He recorded Dark Wings of Steel (2013), Into the Legend (2016), The Eighth Mountain (2019), Glory for Salvation (2021) and Challenge the Wind (2024) — the output with which Alex Staropoli rebuilt the band on his own. He is today the longest-serving guitarist after Turilli himself, and one of the elements that guaranteed the group's sonic continuity after the split.
