Ronaldo Simolla

Ronaldo Simolla — Brazilian vocalist — was part of Delpht in the band's first line-up, in the late 1990s. His is the voice on Screams of Ice (2000), the debut record. Delpht formed in 1998, at a moment when Brazilian power metal had a scene consolidated around Angra's international success — there were bands in several cities, an audience, fanzines and a live circuit, but practically no label structure. Singing power metal demands a high register sustained through entire songs, and in 1990s Brazil there was no specific vocal training for it: singers in the genre learned on their own, often straining the voice until they found a technique that worked. Simolla left the band after the first record, and Delpht carried on with another line-up until Living in Fantasy (2005). His participation is in the recording that documents the beginning of one of that generation's bands — the generation that sustained Brazilian metal in the gap between two waves of visibility.
