Stefan Helleblad has been Within Temptation's guitarist since 2011, and is the only foreign member of a band historically made up of Dutch musicians. Born in Sweden in 1978, he joined at first as a touring musician and later became a full member, forming with Ruud Jolie the guitar pairing that carries the group's most recent phase — a period in which Within Temptation moved away from symphonic arrangement and adopted a more direct sound, with guitars occupying space that previously belonged to the orchestra. That change widened his function precisely. On Resist (2019) and Bleed Out (2023), the guitar stopped being a supporting layer and began carrying riffs in the foreground, with lower tunings and modern texture. Beyond the instrument, Helleblad works as a sound engineer and producer, an activity he develops alongside the band.
