ZP Theart — born in South Africa in 1975 — was DragonForce's original vocalist, between 1999 and 2010. His voice is on the four records that built the band's reputation: Valley of the Damned (2003), Sonic Firestorm (2004), Inhuman Rampage (2006) and Ultra Beatdown (2008). The singing on "Through the Fire and Flames" is his — the track that became the hardest in the game Guitar Hero III and took DragonForce to an audience of millions with no connection to metal. The technical demand of that role is extreme and often underestimated. DragonForce's repertoire is played at tempos above 200 beats per minute, and the singer has to keep pitch, diction and breath in a high register over that base, track after track, across a whole show. Theart solved that for a decade. After leaving, he was Skid Row's vocalist between 2015 and 2022 — an unusual path, from the fastest British power metal to 1980s American hard rock, two formats of completely different vocal demand.
