Dark Avenger is a Brazilian power metal band formed in Brasília in 1993 by vocalist Mário Linhares, pursuing a heavier sound inspired by Manowar, Helloween, and Iron Maiden. The band self-released its self-titled debut in 1995. Their most acclaimed work, Tales of Avalon: The Terror (2001), launched a concept saga rooted in Arthurian legend. After a 2005 breakup and 2009 reunion, they completed the saga with Tales of Avalon: The Lament (2013), followed by The Beloved Bones: Hell (2017). Vocalist Mário Linhares died on December 22, 2017, at age 45. The band has been largely inactive since, its catalog now presented in his memory.
