Alessandro Venturella has been Slipknot's bassist since 2014, taking on one of the hardest positions in metal: replacing Paul Gray, a founder of the band, who had died four years earlier. Born in England in 1984, he joined to record .5: The Gray Chapter (2014) — the album built around Gray's absence and carrying his name in the title. In other words, Venturella's first work in the band was to play bass on an entire album dedicated to the bassist he was replacing. His playing respects the function Gray had established: low, simple, heavy lines that hold the centre while two guitars, two percussionists, drums and samples pile up above. In a nine-person arrangement that is the piece that cannot fail, and the choice not to reinterpret it was deliberate. He is also on We Are Not Your Kind (2019) and The End, So Far (2022), and remains in the current line-up alongside Corey Taylor, Shawn Crahan, Mick Thomson, Jim Root and Sid Wilson.
