Andreas Blomqvist — Swedish bassist — is a co-founder of Seventh Wonder and one of the band's principal writers; the group became one of the references of Scandinavian progressive metal. Seventh Wonder formed in Stockholm in 2000 and built its reputation on a difficult combination: progressive metal structures with real complexity and, at the same time, vocal melodies of immediate appeal. Mercy Falls (2008), a concept album about a man in a coma, is the work in which that combination reaches its highest point and the record the band is best known for. The bass holds a prominent position in this design. Blomqvist plays melodic lines, often in counterpoint to the voice and guitar rather than simply doubling them — an approach drawn from progressive rock tradition more than from metal, and one that makes Seventh Wonder recognisable within the first bars. He is on every record, from Become (2005) to The Testament (2022), and went through the band's most delicate phases, including the period in which Tommy Karevik began combining Seventh Wonder with fronting Kamelot. As writer and as player he is one of the two or three people without whom the band would not exist.
