Anis Jouini

Tunisia

Anis Jouini — Tunisian bassist — is part of Myrath, the band that took metal from the Arab world onto the international circuit. Myrath works with complex sonic material: European progressive metal combined with the scales, rhythms and traditional instruments of the Maghreb, orchestrations and vocals with Arabic ornamentation. In a mixture like that the bass is the instrument keeping everything anchored — it must give the low register and the pulse that hold the music while very different layers move above. It is also the instrument bridging the two worlds. Myrath's bass lines follow metal's rhythmic logic but must accommodate accents coming from traditional percussion, without the music losing weight or direction. The band has seven records, from Hope (2007) to Wilderness of Mirrors (2026), and a path that took it from Tunisia to the main European festivals. It is the most successful example of metal produced in the Arab world.
