Chris Rörland — born in Sweden in 1986 — has been Sabaton's guitarist since 2012, having joined at the moment when the band practically rebuilt itself from scratch. His arrival follows the simultaneous departure of four members in 2012 — guitars, bass, drums and keyboards — a situation that left only Joakim Brodén and Pär Sundström. Rebuilding the line-up at that point was risky: Sabaton was coming off Carolus Rex, a record that had considerably widened its audience, and the band had a tour booked. The line-up assembled then turned out to be the longest-lasting in the group's history, and Rörland is part of it. He recorded Heroes (2014), The Last Stand (2016), The Great War (2019) and The War to End All Wars (2022). His function is to play direct riffs and two-guitar harmonies, in a repertoire that favours clarity and impact over complexity. In Sabaton the material has to work in an arena in front of tens of thousands of people — a demand that changes the criterion of what a good arrangement is.
