Craig Goldy is the guitarist who passed through Dio most often, joining the band in separate periods between 1986 and 2010. Born in 1961, he came in replacing Vivian Campbell and debuted on Dream Evil (1987). His relationship with Ronnie James Dio was the closest of all the group's guitarists, and that is why he was called back so many times. He returned in the late 1990s and wrote much of the material of the band's final phase — Magica (2000), Killing the Dragon (2002) and Master of the Moon (2004) — a period in which Dio regained consistency after a decade of unstable line-ups. His style is melodic with clean phrasing, closer to 1980s hard rock than to technical metal, and it serves well a repertoire in which the guitar exists to support the voice and make room for it. He was in the band until Dio's death in 2010.
