Dan Sugarman — American guitarist — is part of Ice Nine Kills in the line-up that took the band to its widest reach. He came from a far more technical circuit: he passed through Arsonists Get All the Girls, an extreme metal band of complex structures, and is known in the field as a player of solid training, with instructional and demonstration work outside the band. That grounding explains what he solves in Ice Nine Kills. The group writes tracks that change character several times — heavy riff, wide melodic chorus, orchestral passages and theatrical sections recreating the atmosphere of the horror film each song adapts. The guitar has to articulate those transitions precisely so the piece sounds like a unity and not a collage. He recorded The Silver Scream (2018) and The Silver Scream 2: Welcome to Horrorwood (2021), the two concept albums that put the band on the American charts and turned a metalcore circuit group into a phenomenon with a broad audience.
