Ice Nine Kills formed in 2000 in the Boston area of Massachusetts, as a ska-punk project called Ice Nine, founded by school friends Spencer Charnas and Jeremy Schwartz. The band moved toward metalcore and adopted the name Ice Nine Kills before releasing its debut album, Last Chance to Make Amends, in 2006. After Schwartz's departure in 2009, Charnas became the group's only constant member and creative engine, steering lineup changes and a sonic evolution recorded on Safe Is Just a Shadow (2010) and The Predator Becomes the Prey (2014). The band found its definitive identity with Every Trick in the Book (2015), the first album built around a concept of tracks inspired by classic literature and horror, consolidating a thematic horror-film brand that would come to define its career. That concept reached the mainstream with The Silver Scream (2018) and its sequel The Silver Scream 2: Welcome to Horrorwood (2021), both featuring tracks dedicated to specific horror films (Halloween, IT, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th and others), with theatrical live shows and elaborate music videos. Signed to Fearless Records, Ice Nine Kills have become one of the most visible acts in modern metalcore, blending death metal, pop-punk and the theatrical elements of horror rock.
