Daniel Freyberg — born in Finland in 1982 — was the guitarist of Children of Bodom's final line-up, between 2016 and 2019. He joined as Roope Latvala's replacement and recorded Hexed (2019), the band's last album. His spell coincides with the period that would end abruptly with Alexi Laiho's death in December 2020, at 41 — the end of one of the most influential metal bands Finland has produced. His function in the line-up was to be the counterpart to Laiho, who shared solos with Janne Wirman's keyboard in duels of neoclassical vocabulary played at extreme speed. Being the second guitar in that arrangement means holding the harmonic base beneath two soloists, with constant precision and no room for prominence. He comes from Naildown and Norther, bands of the same Finnish melodic death metal circuit, and belongs to the generation formed directly under Children of Bodom's influence — an unusual path: joining the band that defined the vocabulary you learned to play with.
