Derek Jones — American guitarist — was part of Falling in Reverse from the initial line-up, assembled by Ronnie Radke in 2011. He was in the band from the first record, The Drug in Me Is You, released a few months after Radke left prison, and stayed for almost a decade — crossing every reformulation of the line-up and every change of musical direction of a group that combines metalcore, rap, electronic pop and ballad in tracks that switch register without warning. His function was rhythm guitar: holding the harmonic structure while the lead guitarist and the voice occupied the foreground. In a repertoire that changes character several times within the same piece, that role is what keeps the song from sounding like a collage — structural work that rarely appears in the headline credits. He died in 2020, at 35. His nine years had made him, alongside Radke, the element of greatest continuity in a band marked by constant changes.
