Dylan Bowman

Dylan Bowman — American guitarist — has been part of I Prevail since the initial line-up, assembled in Michigan. His function is rhythm guitar, which in I Prevail's architecture means holding the structure beneath layers that occupy almost the whole spectrum: low-tuned guitars, electronic programming, two vocalists of opposite registers and elaborately produced arrangements. Keeping the riff audible and the song's form legible through all that is a problem of arrangement before it is one of execution. The band's format makes that role more demanding than it looks. The tracks alternate between extreme weight with guttural vocals, wide melodic choruses and electronic passages, and the rhythm guitar has to adjust to each without breaking continuity — present in different ways in each section, but always present. Bowman was in the band from before its national recognition and crossed the hardest period of its history: Brian Burkheiser's vocal injury, which threatened to end the singer's career and resulted in Trauma (2019), a record that earned the group Grammy nominations.
