Fabio Lione — born in Italy in 1973 — is one of the most recognisable voices in European power metal, and was Rhapsody of Fire's singer between 1995 and 2016, a period covering practically the whole phase that defined the band. His register comes from opera, with a wide range and clean projection, and his contribution goes beyond technique: in Rhapsody's rock operas he plays characters within a continuous narrative, changing delivery as the scene demands. The so-called Emerald Sword Saga runs across five albums, and it is Lione's voice that gives that story body. His career is remarkably branching. He sang in Vision Divine, the Italian progressive power metal band he helped found, in Kamelot as touring singer, and in Angra between 2012 and 2014, recording Secret Garden (2014) — one of the few occasions on which the Brazilian band had a foreign singer. He also maintains Eternal Idol, Turilli/Lione Rhapsody alongside the founding guitarist, and records under his own name. Few singers in the genre move through so many projects while keeping a recognisable vocal identity in all of them.
