Fefo Ribeiro

Fefo Ribeiro — Brazilian guitarist — was part of Mitrium, the band that recorded Eyes of Time (1993) and introduced Brazilian metal to a nineteen-year-old singer named Edu Falaschi. Mitrium is a document of the early 1990s in São Paulo. It was the hardest possible period to make metal in Brazil: no label for the genre, no affordable studio, no circuit beyond small venues, and Angra's debut — which would open the way for the whole generation — still two years off. Eyes of Time is the band's only album. It already carries what would come to characterise Brazilian power metal: fast harmonised guitars, structures influenced by European metal and high-register vocals. Mitrium ended in 1994. Falaschi would go on to Symbols and then to Angra, becoming one of the country's best-known singers. The bands left behind along that route — Mitrium among them — are the ground all of it came out of.
