Galder — born in Norway in 1976, given name Thomas Rune Andersen — was Dimmu Borgir's guitarist between 2000 and 2024, and is the founder of Old Man's Child. He joined in time for Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia (2001) and stayed for almost a quarter of a century, crossing the band's whole phase of greatest reach: Death Cult Armageddon (2003), recorded with a full symphony orchestra, In Sorte Diaboli (2007), Abrahadabra (2010) and Eonian (2018). His function is to hold the guitar base beneath orchestral layers that occupy almost the entire spectrum. It is different work from traditional black metal: the riff cannot stand alone in the foreground, it has to keep the structure audible while orchestra, choir and symphonic keyboards fill the rest — a problem of arrangement before it is a problem of execution. Old Man's Child, which he founded before Dimmu Borgir and kept in parallel, is his authored project: a band in which he writes and records practically everything alone, playing a black metal more direct and less orchestral than that of his main band.
