Gustavo Silveira

Brazil

Gustavo Silveira — Brazilian guitarist — was part of Tribuzy, the band that recorded in Rio de Janeiro one of the most ambitious albums in 2000s Brazilian metal. Execution (2005) brought Renato Tribuzy's band together with weighty international guests, an arrangement few national projects have managed to assemble. That puts the group's Brazilian instrumentalists in a specific position: recording side by side with musicians from established bands means delivering work to the same standard, without the studio and production structure those guests had at home. The repertoire is classic heavy metal, with direct riffs and melodic solos and a defined space for the guitar — an inheritance from Judas Priest and Iron Maiden more than from the melodic power metal dominating Brazil at the time. Tribuzy also left a live recording with guests. It is a short body of work, but one documenting a concrete attempt to make Brazilian metal converse as an equal with the international circuit.
