Jared MacEachern — born in the United States in 1980 — has been Machine Head's bassist since 2013, having taken over after the litigious departure of Adam Duce, the founding bassist who had held the role for over two decades. His arrival coincides with one of the band's most unstable periods. Besides the rupture with Duce, the group would lose other members in the following years, and Robb Flynn had to rebuild the line-up more than once. MacEachern stayed through all of it, becoming the second longest-serving current member. His function is twofold. As bassist he follows the riffs in unison, holding up the rhythmic displacement on which Machine Head builds weight — accents off the expected beat, mid tempo, low tuning. As backing vocalist he supplies the second voices the band uses in the choruses, an important element in a repertoire conceived for live performance. He recorded Bloodstone & Diamonds (2014), Catharsis (2018), Of Kingdom and Crown (2022) and the group's most recent output.
