Jeremy Schwartz — American guitarist — was part of Ice Nine Kills in the original line-up, assembled in Boston in the early 2000s. That is the band's least heard phase and the furthest from what it would become. Ice Nine Kills started far from the theatrical metalcore it would later play, and took several records to find its shape — Last Chance to Make Amends (2006) and Safe Is Just a Shadow (2010) are documents of a group still searching for an identity, without the literary and cinematic concepts that would define its mature phase. These are years of the local circuit: small shows in Massachusetts, recordings of precarious means, a restricted audience. Nothing suggested the band would come to enter the American charts and develop performances with sets and costumes. Schwartz belongs to that beginning. His spell covers the period when Ice Nine Kills was a teenage project from Boston, more than a decade before The Silver Scream (2018) turned the group into a phenomenon.
