Jona Weinhofen — Australian guitarist — was part of Bring Me the Horizon between 2009 and 2013, exactly in the period when the band began to change. His entry coincides with the end of the deathcore phase and his departure with the record that would consolidate the transformation. Weinhofen recorded There Is a Hell... (2010), on which the band introduced choirs, atmosphere and song structure for the first time, and Sempiternal (2013), on which synthesizers and pop production moved to the centre. These are the two records of the crossing — after them, Bring Me the Horizon was already another band. He came from I Killed the Prom Queen, an Australian metalcore group that is a reference of the genre in its country, which places him among the few musicians from outside the United Kingdom to join the band. His function in that period was to hold the second guitar while the group learned to write with melody and space — a re-education the whole band was undergoing at once, and one that redefined what each instrument should play.
