Mário Pastore

Mário Pastore — Brazilian vocalist born in 1972 — built his path between Delpht, his solo band and appearances in metal opera projects. Delpht emerged in the late 1990s, the generation after Angra, when Brazilian power metal had an active scene but almost no market structure. Screams of Ice (2000) and Living in Fantasy (2005) are the band's two records — made with independent production, limited distribution and the direct effort of the musicians themselves, which was how practically all national metal came about in that period. Pastore's voice is high in register with sustained power, the standard European power metal had established and Brazil adopted. It is a technically demanding kind of singing, one that wears the voice and requires preparation — part of why few singers in the genre keep long careers. After Delpht he continued with a project of his own and as a guest performer, including in Soulspell, Heleno Vale's Brazilian metal opera. It is the typical path of someone who sustained the national scene from within, without the spotlight of the bigger bands.
