Michael Paget — Welsh guitarist known as Padge — is a co-founder of Bullet for My Valentine and the man behind the solos and guitar harmonies that define the band's sound. Bullet for My Valentine formed in Bridgend, Wales, in 2003, and holds a particular place in 2000s metal: it is a metalcore band whose guitar vocabulary comes from classic British heavy metal and thrash. The twin-guitar harmonies, the solos built with a beginning, middle and end, the use of minor scales — all of it comes from Iron Maiden and Metallica, not from the American hardcore out of which metalcore was born. Paget is the one carrying that inheritance inside the band. While Matt Tuck handles song structure and vocals, Padge is the soloist — a function many contemporary bands simply abandoned, and which in Bullet for My Valentine remains central. He is on all seven records, from The Poison (2005) to Bullet for My Valentine (2021). Across twenty years the rhythm section changed, but the guitar pair defining the group's sonic identity stayed the same.
