Moyses Kolesne

Brazil

Moyses Kolesne — Brazilian guitarist — is a co-founder of Krisiun and the author of the riffs that define the sound of one of the world's most recognised death metal bands. Krisiun was assembled in 1990 by three brothers in Ijuí, in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul, and keeps the same line-up today. In thirty-five years it has produced twelve records and built, from a place with no structure whatsoever for extreme metal, a solid international career. Moyses's guitar has recognisable traits: riffs at extreme speed with chromatic phrasing, dark harmonies and solos built as blocks of tension rather than melodic display. It is a sound distinct from both American and Swedish death metal, and that distinction is part of what gave Krisiun an identity of its own in a saturated genre. From Black Force Domain (1995) to Mortem Solis (2022), the band has never softened its sound or sought closeness to more commercial formats. It is a trajectory of total coherence — rare in any genre, and especially across a three-decade career.
