Paulo Schroeber — born in Brazil in 1973 — was Almah's guitarist between 2008 and 2012, and one of the most respected players in Brazilian metal of his generation. His reputation came from earlier: he had passed through Astafix and other projects of the national circuit, and was known for a vocabulary combining extreme execution technique with a phrasing of his own — not the repetition of scales that marks many metal guitarists, but melodic construction over the harmony. In Almah he was part of the classic line-up, the one that turned what had begun as Edu Falaschi's solo project into an actual band. He recorded Fragile Equality (2008) and Motion (2011), records on which the group consolidated a sound of its own, heavier and less epic than the power metal Falaschi was identified with in Angra. He died in 2014, at 41, after years of treatment for a rare disease. His death had wide repercussion in the Brazilian scene, and musicians from various bands organised performances and recordings in his honour — rare recognition for a guitarist who never had international reach, but who was a reference among the country's own players.
