Rick Hunolt — born in the United States in 1963 — was Exodus's guitarist in the classic line-up, working alongside Gary Holt between 1983 and 1993, with later returns. The pair the two formed became known in that world as the "H-Team", and its logic defines the band's sound in that period. There is no fixed division between rhythm and lead: the two alternate, harmonise across whole passages and frequently play parallel lines at high speed, which demands absolute rhythmic synchrony. In a genre built on picking precision, two guitarists in unison at that speed cannot be off by a fraction. He was on Bonded by Blood (1985), Pleasures of the Flesh (1987), Fabulous Disaster (1989) and Impact Is Imminent (1990) — the run that placed Exodus among the central names of Bay Area thrash. He left in the early 1990s, returned briefly for the band's revival in 2001 and left the group in 2005, when he was replaced by Lee Altus.
