Ricky Armellino — American guitarist and producer — is part of Ice Nine Kills in the line-up that consolidated the band's reach. His arrival coincides with the phase in which the group stopped being a name of the metalcore circuit and became a phenomenon: The Silver Scream (2018), a concept album on which each track corresponds to a specific horror film, and its 2021 sequel, both of which entered the American charts. Ice Nine Kills works with a format demanding for the guitar. The tracks combine heavy riff, wide melodic chorus and theatrical passages reproducing the atmosphere of the film each song adapts — orchestrations, effects and abrupt changes of character within the same piece. The guitar has to hold that architecture without the track becoming a collage of disconnected parts. Armellino is also a producer and an active musician in other projects of the American circuit, working outside Ice Nine Kills in different roles — a studio musician's path applied to a band whose identity depends as much on production as on composition.
