Thobbe Englund — born in Sweden in 1979 — is Sabaton's guitarist across two periods: between 2012 and 2016, and again since 2024. His first spell coincides with the band's rebuilding after the simultaneous departure of four members in 2012. He came in alongside Chris Rörland and Hannes Van Dahl, forming the core that would take Sabaton from a European circuit band to an arena attraction. He recorded Heroes (2014) and The Last Stand (2016), the albums on which the band consolidated the format that would make it internationally known. He left in 2016 to devote himself to his own projects and to family life, an unusual situation in a world where departures tend to have litigious causes. He returned in 2024, once again part of the line-up. His function in the repertoire is to play direct riffs and two-guitar harmonies. Sabaton favours clarity and impact over instrumental complexity — the compositions have to work in front of tens of thousands of people, and that sets the criterion for arrangement.
