Thomas Miller

Thomas Miller was Symphony X's bassist between 1994 and 1998, the period covering the band's first four albums: Symphony X (1994), The Damnation Game (1995), The Divine Wings of Tragedy (1997) and Twilight in Olympus (1998). His spell coincides with the forming of the group's identity. It was in those years that Michael Romeo settled the compositional model that would define Symphony X — counterpoint between guitar and keyboard, long structures, references to art music — and that the band moved from studio project to a recognised name in progressive metal, above all in Japan and Europe, where it found an audience before it did in the United States. The Divine Wings of Tragedy, with its twenty-minute title track, is the record where that transition is completed, and Miller is on it. He left in 1998 and was replaced by Michael LePond, who has held the post ever since. Little has been publicly recorded about his subsequent career.
