Wagner García

Wagner García is one of the founders of Oficina G3, having put the band together in São Paulo in 1987 alongside Juninho Afram and Walter Lopes. His work covers the group's early period, when Brazilian Christian rock had practically no professional structure: there were no labels for the segment, no established touring circuit and no formed audience. To put together a heavy rock band with a theme of faith at that moment meant operating without any local reference. As a bassist, his function in that early repertoire was direct support — the Oficina G3 of that phase played hard rock of conventional structure, far removed from the progressive metal it would go on to practise from the 2000s. The founding line-up established the ground on which the band would become one of the longest-lived and most influential of the genre in Brazil, opening the way for a whole generation of groups that came after.
