Sinistra

Brazil

Heavy Metal · since 2016

Sinistra was born in 2016, when guitarist Edu Ardanuy teamed up with vocalist Nando Fernandes to develop a heavy, melodic heavy metal song sung in Portuguese. The lineup took shape with Luis Mariutti on bass and Rafael Rosa on drums, bringing together musicians linked to bands such as Dr. Sin, Angra, Shaman, Hangar and the career of Andre Matos. The accumulated experience avoided the hesitant aspect common to debuts: the group emerged with a fully formed identity and performance. The self-titled album, released in 2022, combined Ardanuy's elaborate riffs, Mariutti and Rosa's vigorous base and Fernandes' intense voice. Tracks such as “Quem É Você?”, “Viver”, “O Ajante” and “Nada É Mais Igual” address personal conflicts, uncertainties and social themes in a direct language, supported by references from classic heavy metal and hard rock. The album was highlighted by the Brazilian specialized press and consolidated the proposal to work with the Portuguese language without softening the weight or adapting the compositions to the radio format. Sinistra's main strength lies less in the individual CVs of its members than in the way these trajectories meet. The band preserves the characteristic virtuosity of its musicians, but avoids turning the songs into disconnected technical demonstrations. By choosing Portuguese and a dense sound, the group occupies a little explored space in national metal: heavy, sophisticated and immediately understandable, without needing to pretend that they were born in Birmingham
