Brian Marshall — American bassist — was part of Creed and has been Alter Bridge's bassist since the band's founding in 2004. His path has a significant interruption. Marshall recorded Creed's first two albums — My Own Prison (1997) and Human Clay (1999), the latter one of the best-selling records in American rock history — and left the band in 2000, before Weathered. When Creed dissolved and the instrumentalists formed Alter Bridge with Myles Kennedy, he came back. Alter Bridge is a more demanding repertoire. The songs have longer structures, tempo changes and arrangements in which the bass has lines of its own rather than merely doubling the guitar — something Creed's radio format rarely allowed. It is an interesting case of a second career within the same network of musicians: the same instrumentalists, a different singer, and a result that audience and critics treated in a completely different way.
